New grandstand for The Regentes

The process for the new telescopic grandstand for Theater De Regentes was carefully prepared by the management, technical crew and the theatre construction consultant together with various industry professionals. Knowledge of and experience with the existing stand was incorporated into the requirements and wishes for the new stand. The floor of the auditorium, because it is constructed over the basin, has limitations when it comes to the load-bearing capacity of the floor. Eventually, the process led to the choice of a telescopic stand with rigid chain technology from COS in Oudenaarde.

Rigid chain technology

The retractable grandstand has a drive system with rigid  chain technology. The autonomous drive system works completely independently of the floor, making opening and closing perfect.

Telescopic grandstand

The telescopic grandstand we designed fits exactly within the footprint of the old grandstand, within the contours of the auditorium and the gallery one level higher. By capacity, we achieve 360 seats over 18 platforms.   From the gallery, where the original changing rooms of the pool are still there, visitors can also enter the grandstand. These entrances are also used when only partially using the grandstand for specific use of the stage floor.

Theater seating and finishing

The seats of the old grandstand were very popular with staff and visitors to the theatre because of the model of the backrest. So it was decided to renovate them and use them on the new grandstand.

The visible and invisible metal structure is powder-coated in RAL-9005 black. The platforms are finished with high-quality needle felt carpet, and the two aisles feature photo luminescent step signage to alert the audience to step down as they walk to their seats.
